Meiji Shrine

Dori(Entrance to Meiji Jingu)(End of January)

This gateway's are an archetype to many Japanese shrines and temples. They are used to keep evil spirits out.

The Meiji Jingu is a beautiful shrine right outside Harajuku(Young people love to dress in costumes here). It is also connected to Yoyogi Koen(park) Making it one of the largest recreational areas in the heart of Tokyo.
Donations of Sake(Rice Wine)
One of the many ice sculptures left over from New years.
Meji Jingu during New Years is comparable to the Christmas tree lighting in Rockefeller Center NYC. The place is literally packed, everyone crowds to the center of the Shrine so they can see the Large gong struck 21 times.
Finished in 1926 the Temple was built to honor and hold the soul of the deceased emperor Meiji(Great Reformist).
People Paying there respects by Claping twice and  Bowing twice. As well as throwing a Lucky 5 yen coin into box.

My Host mother and I.

A Japanese Wedding.(Kekonshiki)
